I don't know if anybody know about speakers but I have 8 6x9's running at 80rms watts each. What can I use without blowing out the speakers but yet sounding loud?

I've done a fair bit of stereo work in my G Body. As pontiacgp mentioned it is very important to have a good amplifier that puts out clean power. But I would argue even more important is having the electrical system to back that up. Upgrading your factory grounds, your battery and alternator will make a big improvement in your electrical system, and also using good quality wire. In addition one of the biggest differences you can make is sound deadning. You can have as many speakers, or the most expensive speakers you want, but that's not going to matter at all if the vehicle rattles and reduces sound quality.

How much power does my amp need to put out. I plan on running my 8 speakers at 2 ohms. And as far as my signal. Does it have to be a mono? I plan on sound deadening my trunk and insides already.

Are you running all speakers at 2 ohms, or each at 2 ohms? Your best best would be to get a solid 4 channel amplifier, and run 2 speakers of each channel, or a 2 channel and 4 speakers of each channel. In total you would want a amp that puts out around 600-700 rms. Make sure you use good quality 4 gauge or even 0 gauge wire if you wanted, with solid grounds. I always just used welding wire that you can get off ebay pretty cheap, and its usually always OFC. If you do get welding wire, you have to remember that audio wire is oversized, so 0 gauge welding wire is the equivalent to 4gauge audio wire. Also make sure you tune your amp good, or have someone do it if you don't know how. If you have any questions feel free to pm me.

That's exactly what I was going to do. 2 ohms for each channel. Plug up 2 speakers for each channel. I have a hifonics amp that delivers 150 watts at 2 ohms. That'll be good for the speakers I'm in stalling.

You're gonna use 8, 6x9's? No other speakers? No Subwoofers? Where do you plan to mount them? What brand are the speakers? Not all speakers are created equally. You want to make sure you have a good head unit with high voltage pre-outs to send a clean signal to the amplifier. You'll want to make sure you have a quality amp with low distortion levels. Make sure that the amp can handle the ohms you're wanting to run. Make sure you have the right gauge power and ground wires. Use the right amperage fuses. Use the right size speaker enclosures for the best sound.

It's been some years since I was heavily into car audio, some things may have changed since then but the basics are still the same. Do some serious research before you spend a lot of money on speakers and amps. Building a really good car audio system is similar to building an engine. Anybody can go through a catalog, order parts and put together something that "works" but if you match all of the components so that they compliment each other you'll have an audio system that sounds great. Tuning is as important in an audio system as it is with an engine as well. You can buy the best stuff and get a decent sound but when you fine tune it and get it just right, it's so much better.

8 JVC. HX6949. Wiring them 2 ohm. Amp is a 600 watt rms. 150 watts at 2 ohms. There is a 15 inch q power subwoofer I plan on installing; that I haven't thought about just yet.

1 on each door. 1 on each side of the front center console. And a 4 pack in the rear deck.
