Hello I have a 1987 Cutlass Salon. I have a 77 olds engine in it I have headers with a 4 barrel carb and dualls of course.
The transmission is original so it the 250 metric. I have a question my choke stop working on my quadjet the fast idle wasn't working so I got another one. When my cutlass is in the park position it has the proper power and rpms, and the pedal feels good, but when I shift to drive it's like the accelerator pedal feels spongy and the car has a sluglish take off anyone know whts wrong.
I was told to try changing the fuel filter or replacing the plugs. I'm unsure though

If your choke is not working i would be sure after the motor warms up just a bit that the butterfly flapper is open all the way. If not try using a piece of wire to hold it open all the time. This will cause a bit harder starting when cold till it makes a little heat but a lot of people out there do this all the time, then check your timing, with the vacuum to distributor unpluged and capped. Fuel filters unless really dirty act up more when driving.

Olds 350 or 403? Set your base timing around 20. What did the carb come off?
