Hey guys im new to the group.
I just bought a 1980 monte carlo last week. And i had the instrument cluster pulled out today and it never had a speedometer cable.
I went and got one from O'reilly's and the thread that goes to the speedometer was too big and the other other one they had was also.
I ordered one from summit racing and havent yet got it but has anyone else had issues with the thread that screw into the speedo gauge being too big?

The threaded end should connect to the transmission or the cruise control transducer under the hood, or tie the two cables together, depending on how your car is equipped. The end at the speedometer should slide on and be retained by a clip.

I had the 1 piece cable but neither side seemed to work appropriately for the speedo gauge. I havent got to the transmition part yet. I juat need a cable so i can take the instrument cluster to get fixed.

Sorry i just took a closer look. The end of the cable that inserts into the back of the speedometer just needs to be held in with a clamp?
Im new to this stuff lol

It's there, half obscured by the plastic housing. Cable end just slides on and pushes through the clip. Aftermarket cables are a very tight fit through the clip.speedo.jpg

What does the end piece that clipse to that look like? And will a 63in be long enough? I never had the original or seen one to go off of. My car has a 305 so i'd assume it has the th350

Here's a pic of a speedo cable....left side connects to the speedo...

I'm not certain on the length...all our cars had cruise with the two cables....
