Hello everyone. I’m trying to install the front coil springs in my 51 Chevy truck and it’s not cooperating. What spring compressor do you guys recommend? I got a brand new one from a buddy and it stripped the threads off the rod before the spring was compressed. So I went to autozone and got their loaner. I can’t keep it on the spring because the spring doesn’t fit the fork right. So what do you guys use that works good?

This is what I have, had them get me a new one & never returned it.
I had the one with hooks at both ends & it wasn't doing the job (was a PT one from Advance so it was a filed tool before it cam out of the package.
That’s what I got from Autozone and the spring doesn’t fit in the grooves on the fork right and wants to slip. The springs I’m putting in are the f41 springs out of my Monte Carlo.

Now when I used mine it was to put the springs back in my after redoing the control arms (original '86 SS F41 springs that will need to be pulled back out for new ones later) & the only issue I had was positioning the fork to not get pinched between the contol arm & spring after loosing the tool.

I have basically the one from o Reilly’s but mine is snap on. Sometimes that makes a difference, sometimes it doesn’t, but it works well for me.

I use an OTC 7045b compressor. I kept borrowing my buddies and finally just bought a set. Works well and feel pretty safe using it.

So I got one with the double hooks and worked perfect. Now I have to take them back out and cut a coil or so off to get them to function properly. They are a little long and are bowed out. Thanks everyone!
