Well, with all that new info, I'd say the RV cam sounds like a good idea. Any idea what the compression ratio is? Those heads may be shaved way down throwing your valvetrain geometry way off.
No idea that's why it's going to get cracked open and that's why I just cut a deal with someone that used to build motors to go through it with me at his shop as soon as I gather up all the parts to do it

Outstanding. Mystery motor in a work truck had me a bit nervous. 455s build working torque. I'd definitely taylor the build that direction. Low-ish compression to burn cheap fuel and fat, flat midrange is where I'd be headed. Build a tractor motor.

I didn't do anything to the truck but there may be a turn in the plans. I got a link on a used running 454 out of a suburban for $200 and a core! I just so happen to have a 454 that's needs a complete rebuild in my shed that came out of the dump truck sounds tempting we'll see what happens with that though. In other news I'm doing after hours work in another body shop to try and offset some cost did a complete left rear suspension and rear cradle in a brand new infinity tonight cash is King! Tomorrow's trip to the junk yard may be cancelled sense my brother bailed on going with me and the truck started making some very strange noises on the way home tonight. No idea what it is didn't care I'm exhausted lol send it home. Definitely a lot of belt squeal but also a strange rattling sound. I'll look at it when my body catches up with my brain

But...the 455 torque?
Well it's like this solving the mysteries of the engine such as deck height and how much may have been milled off the heads and a new cam and new lifters and adjustable pushrods for measuring pushrod length plus the set of pushrods is a lot more money than $34 and I'm falling behind on getting blasting
