There's a lot of good ideas floating around here but some not so practical for a plow truck I'm planning on using the same dual snorkel air cleaner and always planned on ducts but to the holes in the radiator support not under the bumper or they'll fill up with snow plowing as far as stripes go my thought was finde another hood that's not completely rotted or folded in half then finde a a 69-71 Cutlass hood with the chrome grates and slice it up to give the Chevy hood the bulges and 442 greats like the 69 W-30 pictured. I was thinking a 455 in the corner of the grill and an REO in the center but I like the 4X442 also. But badges are far off for me at the moment. Another thing is I've been looking at cams on eBay and wanted your thoughts on this
Look at this on eBay http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-5...0001&campid=5335822911&icep_item=153112340622
I think it may be a better way to go because I don't even know what valve springs are in that motor

I like the bronze, going to put back the 260 in my 88 to bronze, gold right now. The Rustoleum Aged Cooper looks close, high temp but needs clear coated to hold up to gas.

What compression do you have in that 455? I had that cam in a 350 with 9.6 to 1, 91 minimum octane was needed. I had to back down the timing as well, so meh around town. Equal to 14.8 in the 1/8(9.4). A better cam would have put me more like 13.8. I would say 9 to 1 max with a 455. Get the generic version of the BBO Performer cam 214/224 otherwise.

What cam do you have now? I would think a stock 455 cam would likely already be optimized for torque and fuel economy unless it was originally in a 442 or maybe a Toronado. Or maybe a marine application.

Right now i think it has a 70 W-30 cam in it that motor has a history. As the story goes my brother bought out a oldsmohord in Filly and that 455 was among The horde it was supposedly built by some Oldsmobile guru out west or Calli I forget now it was years ago. Anyway my brother was going to scrap it and 5 other olds motors that were on his trailer. So I asked him to sell me one and that one looked the most complete and shinny new red painted. He agreed it was the pick of the litter and sold it to me for $100 bucks and told me that the guy said he just couldn't get it to run right because it had a dead miss. So I brought it home put it on a stand to investigate and much to my surprise upon disassembly it had a ton of money spent on it. Why anyone would spend good money on J heads is beyond me but there ported and machined for larger studs have full fulcrum roller rockers guide plates and who knows what else. I flipped it over and pulled the pan and lo and behold the whole bottom and look brand new even brand new Pistons that I could see up inside the boar's it's a TRW on the bottom of the part where the wrist pin goes in so I slapped it back together with a set of pushrods I had here (at the time I knew nothing about measuring push rod length) stabbed it in my 87 an boom sent it! And it ate 3 pushrods lol so I tried again yup! Then I swapped out the cam same same. That's when the 87 came back apart and hasn't been driven sense:blam:
So now I'm thinking RV towing cam with matched lifters and valve springs measure pushrod length stick it in the truck and send it! All though as I'm typing this I'm seeing a pattern lol should I not send it???? HELL NO SEND IT!!

Well, with all that new info, I'd say the RV cam sounds like a good idea. Any idea what the compression ratio is? Those heads may be shaved way down throwing your valvetrain geometry way off.
