I've been thinking long and hard about it and I really like the look of the cast blast on the heads so I've decided to go with it and I just sanded off the tops of the black mercruiser valve covers. I think it will look good like that

Not much progress today guy's. I ended up painting the heads orange because they were starting to rust threw the light coat of cast blast the Machinist put on them. I swiped the filter adapter off another 454 and put a cheap oil filter on that I primed for break-in. I torqued the heads and put all the valve train together. Even set lash but when I got to the intake I hit a bump in the road. The intake manifold is from the camper and the water outlet? Inlet? The thermostat housing.. aimed straight up and I need one that points left like a small block and I wanted to change the thermostat. Well one bolt broke off and the other pulled out the threads. Sooo I didn't feal like dealing with it. Eric said he's going to handle it tomorrow. The headers I had in my shed won't work so Eric went digging in his storage container and found a set for a square body. He said he had them for his run stand so I'm just going to give him the Chevelle ones I had. I also sprayed down the carb with carb cleaner and blew it off with air I'm going to roll the dice and just hope it works as is for now. And I forgot to get pictures again but I'm going back Tuesday I'm shore you will be ok until then

Again not much progress but some none the less. Eric didn't meet me tonight because my intake didn't come back fixed yet but I went. I wired it up to the run stand hooked up the battery and it turns with the key. Monday night I took a trip to the pep boys out on rt9 and picked up a couple things I didn't really need but when I seen them I wanted them. I bought ARP stainless steel valve cover bolts a chrome oil cap and a set of header gaskets that I actually do need. Now I remember why I shop online lol so this is what it's looking like now

There a little rusty but so is the truck I thought about painting them but they're only going to end up looking like crap anyway. It's still a plow truck in the Northeast. Then when I got home tonight something in the drivers door fell apart and my window won't go up. I don't feel like dealing with it tonight so tomorrow is another day

Got a little more done tonight. The intake is on and I stabbed in the distributor. I'm using the one from the camper it's surprisingly clean inside and very tight like it's bin replaced. Now that the intake is on I was dying to see it done so I put the valve covers on with some ARP stainless polished stainless steel bolts. Test fit the dipstick tube and found I'm going to need a new one. The curve in the stock one runs it into the headers so I'm going to pick up an aftermarket one there pritty straight. That's it for now sorry no pictures my phone died so untill next time.
