SS,442 why so much?

I bought our Monte SS because it was the cheapest car out there on a list of cars I liked.

Now around here nice shape SS's and 442's can be had for between $4K and $6K and excellent stored car with very low miles, well then they do get expensive, but not to a point that the rest of my car list is still much higher in cost.

Around here every body that owns one of these are neckcar fans all 45+ in age and have taken very good care of their cars.
Ours was is all most perfect shape, just needing a repaint and got it for $4200.

I didn't leave it stock because there are hoards around here that have low miles and have been stored. So much to a point at least around here it'll still be many years before they attain values more than what was paid for them new.

IMO the SS will never attain any serious value. Between the sites I have been on, the year range they made this body style I'd have to guess there are over 25,000 of these owned that are premo condition if not alot more. This will kill any value of rarity that can be added on. 442's might grow some, turbo coupes all ready get premium dollars and will go up more, but the rest of the rare cars will never see much. The popularity was never there thats why they are rare, no body wanted one and it you look at history, there are alot of rare cars out there they aren't popular and they don't fetch much!

lol nobody thought 67 camaros were going to be valuable either, give the ss's time!

it's not that people are asking so much, it's all about what people are willing to pay and it's those who are willing to pay the price are the ones who are responsible for the prices going up.

Agree with ya on pricing pontiacgp. In my area g bodies are a dime a dozen. I will not pay much for one. If they were harder to find in my locale my budget would open up a little. People around here know they are everywhere thus they ask very little, except for some guys who are just not on this planet.

People here think they have a gold mine. Big wheels and bad paint will turn a $2K car into an $8k car. What kills me is that people want ridiculous money for 4 door V6 Malibu's! I can't recall the last time I saw one under $2k around here.

Now when I go back to visit my parents in central IL I can find cheap cars all day. I'm the same way though Chris. I refuse to give more than they're worth. I bought my rust-free GP for $1200 from Milwaukee and it was a driver. I would've paid 2-3 times that in Chicago easily.

One other thing to consider is the cost of living wherever you may be. I got a running 455+trans for $500 but it was a 5 hour drive to get it. Bare 455 blocks here go for $500 & up.

Yea they are very cheap here. Of course I am out in the sticks and I never shop on craigslist. I usually just see them for sale in some guys yard and go make a cash offer. The only thing that has driven the price up compared to a few years ago is scrap price. You can drag one across the scales and bring in 500. So you know your gonna pay atleast 500 now. To get 2k out of me for a gbody it better be straight bodied, completely rust free, ok paint and have some wheels or something to make it worth a bit more, like a good running 350 already installed. And you can get that here. I've already posted the cars I have purchased here and pics of them. my 79 mint, and 84 t top with 455 olds were purchased for the grand total of both, $1500 dollars haha. Both were sitting in their yards for sale for years with higher prices. Cash talks.

Just in my opinion, I hope there are more original engines in your G-bodies their as practically every G-body here in Ottawa Ontario is molested/modified and any originality is long gone. Shure they did not have alot of power but I am more interested in a stock G-body any day versus something that is modified that you can gaurantee had the sh_t driven out of it. Taking a rough educated guess around here maybe 20% of the G-bodies still are in their original state when they came off the showroom floors.

I can agree with that. What I hate most is seeing someone rip out a good factory HO powertrain, hack out all the emissions and computer thinking it will make the car magically faster. Then swap in a low grade, low CR, POS 350 from a 70s truck that pukes out less power than the HO 305. Then slap on an aftermarket carb thay don't know how to tune. So now the car is rendered street illegal, slower than stock, and uses more gas. This is why I rather buy a bone stock G body over a supposedly hotrodded one, which more often than not is a total hackjob. A good hotrodder can soup up a car without disabling any of the emissions systems.

Good Afternoon everyone. I am really tryna find some parts for my 1988 Cutlass GT. Also the true value sinc there so much back in forth about them. Anyone that can help would be greatly appreciated..
