ss guage problem

just bought 82 el camino ss noticed tack does not return to zero speedometer,gas guage,temp guage dont work volt guage works funny but alt. is putting out 14.5 volts know engine was changed where do i start

The speedo is cable driven, so the speedo cable it probably to blame there. The cause of the rest of the gauges not working, could be due to a bad printed circuit board on the backside of the cluster. Are you sure the sending units for the gauges are hooked up?

It could also be corrosion where the gauges make they're connection to the circuit board.
