SSII/SSIII Wheel Questions

I would like to find some better original style wheels, but they are not easy to find. I did find one place that said they had the SSIII, Stockton Wheel. I read mixed reviews on them, some of them really bad. Does anyone know anything about them?

A shame really since at one point they were available aftermarket from 3 different sources. The SSIII's really make the G body 442 what it is and few if any aftermarket options match the factory look. Your best bet is to find a good used set. The Lansing Homecoming show is this weekend. They can usually be found there. It's the largest one day Oldsmobile show in the nation. Here's the link.

I was talking to a gentleman at work today, showing him what rims I was looking at getting (he has an 84 Hurst, as well as other vehicles). He said he had a set of rims that he didn't need anymore. These were 5 spoke 15x8 aluminum rims, he said they were a style from back in the 80's or 90's (what he called a Gotti style rim). He had bought an 87 2+2 Pontiac, and they were on there when he got it. He took them off and put original rims back on the car. He said that they had been sitting outside for about a year, holding down a tarp. He sent me a picture of what they looked like on the car:



He said they were in great shape when he took them off, and should clean up nicely.I was quite surprised when he showed me the picture, and got to liking them the more I looked at them. For the price he quoted, I couldn't pass them up (too cheap to mention). I told him I'd bring him the money. He's going to look at them tonight and take some pictures.

With these being 15X8, going to go with 235/60-15 tires all around. Should fit nicely, and look great on the Olds!

Anubis, thanks for the info. Unfortunately, it's a bit late in the game for me to plan a trip to Michigan, and not enough funds to do this right now. I agree that the SSIII is the best looking rim for the car. I just can't find any right now, and I need to get wheels and tires on the car soon before the tires turn into drag slicks! I will keep looking for them as time goes on, even if I have to buy one at a time. Maybe by the time I get to where I can paint the car,, I can have a set to put on.
BTW, is there any difference, as far as backspacing, etc., in the rims made in 87 as compared to 85 or 86?

Well, finally got the wheels, and had them put on today. Here's what it looked like when I brought it home :



I changed the rear springs (put the factory replacement Moog 5391 springs in, 142# spring rate), and WOW! What a difference!:



Got a nice rake to it! Sits a lot higher than I figured it would. There was around 1 1/2 - 2" difference in the length of the springs, probably from the old ones being compressed.

Thanks to 88hurstolds for posting the spring codes on his site. Good to be able to get the right parts.

Gonna have a blast driving this around...sure to turn some heads!
