I'm considering buying some aftermarket SSIII rims for my 442 with increased width for use with wider tire. Anyone on the forum have experience with these? I'm considering using BF Goodrich P255/60R15 on a 8" or 9" rim for everyday street use but need to understand if 4.5" backspacing with wider rim poses any issues. The frame is not notched at the moment but if required could be done.

Anyone?

I run 255/60's on my original 15x7's no problem.
If you're just looking for more tire, there's no need for wider wheels.
Now if you want the wider wheel look, then that's another story.
I've heard mixed reviews on the quality of the aftermarket/repop SSIII's...
4.5" might be close, but you could always get some spacers if you run into trouble with frame clearance.

I ran 245/60/15 on rear of my H/O until July. I replaced with 255/60/15 & I LOVE the look. I have no issues at all with rubbing, etc. Stock 15x7 rims.

Figure that most 255/60R15 tires are going to have an acceptable rim size range of approx. 7'-9" so the wider the rim the wider your section width and footprint will be and a better chance of rubbing on an un-notched frame.
A 7" rim will pull the section width in giving more frame clearance but also gives a little less footprint on the ground because of this.
I think an 8" or 8.5" rim would give the tire a more aggressive better fitting look but I would want to notch the frame for added clearance with a 4.5" backspace but this will also give the tires a more tucked in look.

Thanks for the input guys....It's exactly what I was looking for. My thought behind going with a wider 8" or 9" rim was to increase the tire contact patch but if going this route will cause rubbing on the frame then I'll stick with the factory rims. I don't want to run spacers at my HP level....even hubcentric spacers are scary in my opinion.

Could one of you running the 255 rear tire post some pics showing rake and stance? I want the biggest tire possible without the jacked up tractor tire look. The 255 is at least 1" taller than the factory tire....Did any of you lower the rear to compensate?

Thanks for your help!

Here's how mine sits...
Since this picture was taken I have gone from 235/60 up front, back to the stock 215/65.
Rears are still the same 255/60
