I know its an old post but that's the best diagram I have seen on the retire solenoid. I'm Def gonna do this as the Milton starter I have doesn't have the post to run the coil

it's not a dumb question....and it's easy to do plus with the remote solenoid you don't have a hot wire at the starter from the battery until you turn the key...

Another revival of an old thread.

Pontiacgp, do you have any details on the remote solenoid? How do we know which one to buy? I assume there are many available.

Thanks.

Autozone part # F496 or F492....iirc

if it only happens when it's hot I'd be looking at the solenoid...I run headers so I installed a ford style solenoid to prevent any problems with the solenoid heating up
ok GP, I gotta ask...how does this solve a heat sink problem? I understand that the ford soleniod is away from the heat, but the bendix gets kicked out by the solenoid ON the starter, and the issues isnt that its not getting enough cranking amps, but that it gets hot after a long drive and then becomes prone to weakness when called upon to kick out again. I have no doubt that this set up may work, just not sure exactly why....lol.

It does nothing for a heat sink problem and will not be a fix for it. It only removes tge power beinv down by starter after car starts.

Thanks Bill but we don't have autozone in Canada.
Anyone know a brand and part number or just specs so i can find one?
Even if it was one from a ford. Which ford, motor, years, etc.

Thanks again.

look up a 72 f150 6cyl .... but there are only a few types of fender mounted ford solenoids, so if you local parts store has any solenoids, you can pick out which one you might want. look on AZ's website so you can see what they look like, if needed.

That works, thanks Bill.
