Starter Problems

Is it grounded to the alternator bracket? You could always move it to another bolt on the engine to see if that helps.

im not too sure...i will have to check when i get back home

There's only a handful of things it could be. I haven't seen many ignition switches fail on these cars. I'd be checking, cables, connections, the fusible link, or the starter solenoid first.

I'd roll by but I dont have wheels since the El is down for the front end rebuild. That starter was grinding and making all kinds of weird noises bruh. Then The burning smell. It sounded like the starter was having a helluva time spinning the flywheel. Since you said the starter was doin that when you got it, it makes me wonder if its even the correct starter or if its properly shimmed. Its gettin spark cuz it turns over after a lil while....I'd get a new starter bruh and clean those wires up. You dont have a single good ground on the car from what I saw. You saw how I did mine. Took care of all my starter problems. Its usually the solenoid that goes bad on em. Heat kills the solenoid quick.

sounds like its gonna be your starter solenoid my cutlass was doing the same stuff it was making some weird grindy noises when i would go to start it, after awhile it would not want to start. id remove the starter and take it in to pepboys and have them test it on there machine.. dont take it to autozone the starters they have on there computer is not the right one for the 307 i tried two starters from there and they didnt fit so then i went to pepboys and got the right one also use the new shims that come with the starter.. after i replaced the starter i never had anymore problems hope this helps homie

i think i have figured out the problem..i brought a new starter today from autozone for 80 bucks that works perfect. and still it isnt starting...their is a lil relay on theright side of the car that ticks when i try to crank the car..so my guess is its that or i need new wires ran to my ignition...either way it goes im not happy...oh yeh and 2 of my bolts on my passenger front tire snapped today...

that starter from autozone aint the ''right one ''i had the same problem on my cutlass i tried two of there starters and they wouldnt start my cutlass i went back to test them at autozone and they said they were working fine i think they got a gliche in there computer system that starter dont work on the cutlass i dont know why ,so i just returned them and went to pepboys and got one of there starters And installed it and my cutlass fired right up.... no more issues u should return that autozone starter and go to pepboys...
