After I get done with going through the engine and making sure its ready to go, I'm planning on getting a steel cowl induction hood. I made my stock flat one on my 80 malibu by buying a steel cowl separate, tacking it on, and filling in with fiberglass and filler. I've done this three times already. The first two were bad from the welder creating too much heat and warping the steel. Third time we had a wet rag right nest to the welder and that helped. Everytime, the hood flexes and separates the cowl and hood apart.

So whats the cheapest place to get one. Nothing complicated just a 2inch cowl. So far I've heard good things about goodmark. Is the underside of these hoods have any reinforcement or is it just plain steel?

as far as I know goodmark was the only game in town for a steel cowl for one of those but it 6 or 7 years ago that I was checking them out and they were like 450 then, im sure they've gone up by now.

Try http://www.summitracing.com/ and http://www.carhoods.com/
I was looking for a different hood then the stock one for my 86 El Camino and http://www.summitracing.com/ had a good choice from steel hood. http://www.carhoods.com/ has some different choice besides the crawl hood if you might change your mind once looking at it. Anyway hope that help you out

FYI try calling http://www.summitracing.com since there website is not the easiest to navigate through. They also can help you out better on the phone then what you can read. They saved be a return because there website did not mention something that would of made that part not fit on my 86 El Camino.
