i got a 84 monte carlo with a non tilt column ,i dont have cruise and it is column shift for a turbo 350 trans.i want to go with a tilt floor shift ,will all g body columns work and are the electronics the same or will i have to cut and splice connectors.

I went to junkyard today and found a column in a 86 ss they want 75 dollars for it. it is a little mom and pop yard so they were unsure of the interchange would like to grab it but dont want to mess with it until i am sure that it will work in my 84 monte carlo base model.

i know the delay w wiper switch is different if the col is still in the car look at the ww motor if it is the same as yours it will fit i cant remember if you can swap the non tilt switch to the tilt col if it is different dave

the interchange is 82 and up.look for the wipers on the column.78-81,wipers are on the dash. as for the cruise, delay,it doesn't matter as the harnesses will all plug in to each other.the main harness has the cruise and delay wiring.if it's not on car they just won't work and vice versa. just pop the pin on the shift lever and mount floor shifter. wire up the neutral safety switch and wait till you find a floor shift column.

as long as it is 82 and up all g-body columns will interchange.make sure you get all of the steering shaft to the box.some have round splines instead of d-shaft at column.same at box though.you can look up wire diagrams if wire colors are different.

The column should be a direct fit to your car. The only thing(s) might be different is if the donor column has a delay wiper switch and yours doesn't. You can go back and grab the wiper motor with delay, or remove the wiper switch from your column and replace it into the new one.
If the junkyard SS column is a tilt/ floor shift unit, $75.00 is a good price. See if the key available.
