our 78,79,80 regals all use the same exact column to my knowledge as our wipers are on the dash and not the column. Also as far as i know we can use a jeep shaft as long as you get the right one. I have one sitting in the closet but havent installed it yet. Why do you think you cant use one?

According to what I've read in some other posts, the '78 steering column is slightly different than '79 & up, and the Jeep shaft doesn't fit.

Yes, the '78 is the last year for the splined shaft, and '79 began the slotted shaft. You would need the correct intermediate shaft to use a '79 on and the rag joint "may" be different too.

Thanks for clearing that up Mark, I stand corrected. I still need to find a column for my 80 from a manual car

yeah you should be able to do a straight forward swap as the 78-80 regals should have all had wipers on dash. i know my 80 has them on dash how about your 78?
