don't know much about jeeps so I found a steering shaft from a 1994 jeep Cherokee xj
should It fit?
thanks

if you want an alternative the Chevy Astro and GMC Safari vans intermediate shaft fits with a minor alteration. The van shafts are alot easier to find than the jeep shaft and are usually in almost new condition with the shaft being covered in the vans..

this video is about an upgrade for a F body but it's the same for the G body. I have one in my GP and got it for $20 at the yard

Steve,
I assume you also had to change the clocking on the joint like this fellow indicated. How difficult was it removing it from the Astro/ Safari van? I have a Jeep shaft in my car now, which isn't bad, but the GM shaft appears to be beefier. I'm thinking of swapping it out.

Oh BTW, thanks for posting the informative video.

it was easy, I just used a small grinder, slid the u-joint off and slid it back on 90º from the original position and then used a cold chisel to fold some of the metal from the shaft over the u-joint. At the top of the column I marked the position where the bolt passed through and them just ground that a bit till the bolt slid through. What is nice about the astro/safari shafts is the two I found were like brand new cause of the rubber cover that covers the whole shaft. The other advantage it's not hard to find those vans in the yards. The jeep is hard to find and they are exposed so they are usually all rusted.

Thanks for the thanks...I was looking for a jeep shaft for over a month and came across that video, found a few of the van shafts the next day so I attached the video to let you guys know about it and it would take me way too long to explain it in words...I type slow..lol

So, unlike the Jeep shafts, these don't need to be freed up with a torch. The GM shafts already slide freely. I also like the thought that they have a rubber cover on them, which keeps them rust and gunk free. As you said, the Jeep shafts are exposed.
The one I found was really clean and in good shape. Most of the Jeep shafts in the junkyard looked like crap...I didn't even want to handle them.

I was in a yard today and counted 18 astro/safari vans and unless they were a 4 wheel drive it had a steering shaft for a G body....
