Anyone here ever run a street stock/pure stock/bomber/outlaw stock whatever they're called locally? My regal is off the road and I'm thinking I probably won't put it back on the road... So I'm trying to decide what to do with it. I'm thinking going dirt track racing... There's two dirt ovals each about an hour from here that run a stock car class... The problem I'm having is finding information on what the rules are so I was wondering if anyone here has gone stock car racing before. And more to the point, converted a Regal into a stock car... I see lots and lots of pictures of G-body Malibu's and Monte's, and 75-81 Camaro's and Firebirds. And I see a handful of 82-92 F-body's and a handful of 73-77 A-body's. I know rules vary from track to track, but does anyone know what engines are typically allowed, what kind of engine mods, exhausts, intakes, heads, etc.

You can find out all kinds of info on any class of Modifieds, and any class of Sprints... But I can't find out much about the dirt stocks.

Each track will be different, there are 2 tracks around here and neither has the same rules, Such as 2 bbl carbs n such.

most tracks have different rules so you'll need the rule book from the track you want to run at...it may be a good idea to find a car that's been sold from the track so you have a good base to start with and you can use your car for spares

Most tracks will have some standard rules:
360ci maximum engine size (I believe is the most common)
cast iron heads
cast iron intake
cast iron exhaust manifolds
factory A-arms
factory style rear control arms
driveshaft loop
rollcage of course
fuel cell
battery behind drivers seat

Tracks will vary on:
2 barrel / 4 barrel carburetor
automatic / manual transmission

I hope this is enough to get you started

Thanks Ritter that was one of my main things I was wondering, if they are mostly 5 liters or if they let you run 5.7-5.8 liters I wonder if they're limited to Chevys or if you can build any GM brand engine at some tracks. I know 305 sprint cars are popular as a budget class I know a guy a friend of a friend that runs one in fact still pricey as hell though. So that's why I was wondering if they were 305's.

I knew the rules varied but you'd think there would be some sort of similarity between tracks so you can race the same car at various tracks for a reasonable amount. Like if one track lets you run 4bbl and the other 2bbl it wouldn't be a big deal but it seems somewhat like I'm hearing a lot of tracks have totally different requirements.

I couldn't really use my car for spares... It pretty much would all have to go, all I'd want it for is the body and the chassis and suspension. The interior would all have to go, the engine would definitely have to go, the rear would probably have to go for a 9inch, a 12 bolt, or a 8.5 inch rear it's not worth buying a locker or spool and a ring and pinion set for a 7.5 when you could build a junkyard 9inch for just a little more. That's not a bad idea though... maybe it would be better to buy a car but I don't know I kind of want to convert my car then I can run it until there's nothing left of it rather than send it to the junkyard or sell it for whatever 3 or 4 hundred bucks maybe 500 bucks max.

they have different rules so you can't go racing at a competitors track unless it's an open invitational....we race a superstock in a nascar whelen division and even that has rules that are left open to each track....we have a late model we are running in the US in a new series where we run at 11 different tracks and we can't race that late model at the track we race our superstock cause of the rules...

I am like 99.9% sure that no track out there will let you run a FORD 9" under a GM car, sorry. Most of the rules will be the same. It would just be small stuff like that carburetor change that you would be looking at.

Every track has its own rules depending on the class you want to run, unless its a sanctioned event or they have adopted a set of rules like IMCA.I ran a hog class when I lived in Florida we were limited on max lift of cam, 360ci max if it was a factory option, had to have a full frame, had to run track tires, exhaust had to exit past the drivers compartment, etc.I dont think you'll make this year usually registration is in the spring and first drivers meeting is probably within a month from now maybe later but keep in mind usually the first big race @ most tracks is memorial day weekend so you got about 2 months.

our track lets us run a 9" in any brand of car....it's mainly for safety reasons since in a full floater a broken axle doesn't fly off the car. Just last year at a local track a broken axle sent a wheel over the fence and almost killed a kid. Some tracks have a rule that an after market axle of specific brands and part numbers have to be run on the right side of the car. As for the engine there's a rule at alot of tracks at minimum vacuum at a specified rpm...a basis test but it works at stopping illegal mods
