Not all Cutlass's had rear sway bars... Just F41/special suspension cars.

A base model Cutlass would just have the wimpy front bar.
With the F41 package, you got the bigger front bar and a rear bar as well as stiffer springs.

The F41 package was included as part of the Salon & Salon based 442's.

like I said...... i have seen hundreds of these cars......and they all have had rear swaybars

My '79 Supreme Brougham had the small front bar and none on the rear. It never did have one. If EVERY Cutlass ("hundreds of them") in the yards where you live have F41 sized bars, you'd better start pulling them. Get an eBay account and you can retire in about 6 months.
I don't know if a rear sway bar means it has a special package or not, but I do know that not EVERY Cutlass came with a rear bar. In fact, of all the Gbodys I have seen in the yards in the Portland area over the past year, only maybe 1/3 had rear bars and only 1 had the F41 package.

Maybe its a regional thing but at the salvage yard I stopped at thats got a ton of G's I didnt see a single car with a rear sway bar. of course 25% of them were sunk in the ground but the rest of them didnt have any sort of rear bar.

I have owned a cutlass since I was 15..............I am now 44. as I said I have seen hundreds of g body.............1979 to 1988 cars( I am in canada)

and ALL of them have had a rear swaybar. maybe it was'nt included in the options for american cars..........but I have never seen 1 without it yet in canada. makes no sense to me as these bars were part of the suspension design. if ya had no swaybar.........I find that odd

peace

In the yard I hit up every week..there is 3 Cutlass with rear sway bars and two of those have/had the larger front bar as well as the jounce bars. There is also a Grand Lemans with the jounce bars and rear sway bar. The jounce and large sway bar off one of the Cutty's is now on my son's 81 Malibu. I don't seem to have too much trouble running across this stuff here 8)

Here in oregon its rare to find 2 gbodys in my local junk yard.If i do theyre junk.

I was reading this thread thinking there was no way that a 4link type rear susp. wouldn't have a sway bar... Then I looked under my car... wtf? This is a one owner (old lady) car that the motor got hot and locked up in, no way it's been tampered with. Anyways, here's a pic from under my turd. I know I know, need to get under there and clean...

its hard to find a cutlass with a rear sway around here in the yard if you do you are lucky. Ive had a few none of them have had one until I got my GN. Is it that people coincidentally removed the from all three of mine. It was definitely and option. A rear sway is not necessary for a 4 link to function or else every a-body chevelle cutlass monte would have had one as far back as 68 at least. Impalas had a 3 or 4 link depending on package and never had a rear sway from 59-64.
must be a canadian thing.....I mean it isnt that far fetched seeing how they came with chevy motors anything is possible.

been discussing this with my olds buddys, and they seem to think it might be a cold climate type thing...............more sliping and sliding. don't know for sure, but up here almost all cars have at least 0.75 inch swaybar on the back

anybody need a swaybar................maybe i can help. might start selling them, if there is a need.

peace
