I agree that a quadrajet is a good carb when working properly.people have always gave them a bad rap because they dont know how to fix or tune them propely. my main concern is intake ,i can not find any info on how well the stock aluminum intake performs compared to a after market edelbrock or holley intake.

so finally almost got all parts rounded up for my 350 build. the main thing is carb and intake i have a stock aluinum 4 bbl intake and quadrajet of a 1973 truck that works just fine....
If it works fine why change it? You will not gain any performance by switching to an Edelbrock carb and intake. The Performer intake is about the same as a stock intake and the Performer RPM won't gain anything unless you do some head and exhaust work. IMO you cannot upgrade from a Q-Jet, there is no better carb for a street/strip car.

x2 on keeping the Qjet. Set it up once and be done with it. Sure its ugly as all hell and has a bad rep from ignorant people that have no clue about what they are talking about but it will be wayyy more reliable than a Holley or Edelbrock.

Just talked to my uncle and he said the qjet is the orginal one that came on the car and never had anything done to it. He got the car from an older lady that hardly drove the car. It is a 305 bored 30 over. Also he told me he still have the qjet and breather in his storage unit. I thought he told me he sold it, guess I am getting old.

it depends on the cam you have.

We have ran just about every carb you can think of over the years. They are all good as long as they are sized correctly and set up properly. Bigger is not always better, sometimes it is worse. Just pick one based on your motors requirements. Rebuilt right, set it up right and you are good to go for a long time'
