I am a Deputy with the Arapahoe County Sheriff in Denver CO. We see at least 10 steals a week in my area alone. A few weeks ago a guy had a 70 Chevelle stolen from his garage because he left the keys in the visor and someone popped the side door on his garage while they were on vacation.

This sucks I hate taking these reports and seeing the heartbreak on people’s faces. That being said whenever you are in my area please call into non-emergency and ask for increased patrols for car shows/ swap meets we are always happy to stop by! It also give us an excuse to check out the cars and for me to maybe find something cool for my 80 lol
My brother just moved to Minneapolis from Denver/Englewood partially because of the lack of tolerance from LEOs regarding the car culture. I guess there are 3 sides to every story.....

Off topic CO rant-

The people I knew from back home in HS that were big recreational users in a state that it wasn't legal and had little to no usable skills or work ethic decided to move to CO to become dispensary clerks right after the "legalize it" boom. They were promised big bucks, easy hours and the ability to sample the merchandise. They were even promised to be paid to fly them down and housing was covered, what a deal! Well they couldn't see through that smoke (pun intended)

They were picked up in a rusty safari van full of other like minded people and were driven the 18 hour trip to be dumped in some run down apt. and had to live stacked on top of each other. The management figured a 3 bedroom apt. could fit 10 people since 3 bedrooms + 2 couches= 5 beds and 12hr shifts mean only 5 people could be home at any time so no big deal.

Essentially they ended up in indentured servitude since they were paid garbage, over worked, and they all blew all their money on the merchandise in the store they worked. They couldn't work up enough money to get an actual apt. for a down payment and couldn't afford to get back home. Luckily the guy I kinda knew had his parents buy him a bus ticket or something and he got home.

Most people that get bussed there can't get a factory, construction or other well paying job since they had little to no skillset since they were 19 year old with no experience and none of them could pass a drug test. Plus, the ones that had strong backs couldn't use them because it might blow their ruse of needing it medically in whatever home state they came from.

Not surprising crime has gone up when you bus people there to pay them virtually nothing and they get desperate to scrape up cash and get home. A lot of great people move to CO who aren't recreational users and a lot of great people are recreational users outside of CO but if you put a bird feeder in your yard and get rodents trying to eat the bird feed you can't be surprised.

This place has gone downhill. The State Patrol was giving a guy with a pot leaf decal on his ride a sobriety test on I25 at 7:10 am the other day. At least for now, in my town, we don't have no stinkin dispensaries. Hey 80oldscutlass, my kid is with Castle Rock Explorers, last year he was on a team at competition with some of your kids and they took some trophies in Gunnison.

My agency loves car shows and clubs! We make it point to try and show up just to hang out. The ones that annoy us are the street racers that attempt to take over I-25 and Arapahoe Road.

Thank you sir, that is the direction he is headed. He does ride alongs every chance he gets, usually he ends up running the radio, sometimes he has to show our K9 officer how to check people into the jail...….. His older brother went through Explorers as well, he's currently a LEO in Columbia, SC.

That sucks, and isn't right, but c'mon, that was just plain DUMB to leave it like that
