Hello Everyone,
I just purchased a 83 Hurst Olds, and it has the SS111 chrome wheels, they have that milky look to them,
and some of the clear started to flake off, and the chrome is perfect underneath. I have heard that some people had
use stripper to remove it. My questions is what paint stripper to use? I would hate to use the Aircraft stripper and it
takes off the chrome too to the metal. Any suggestions would be greatly apprciated.

Thanks in advanced for your help,

Jim

I am reasonable sure the the Aircraft stripper will not remove the chrome. But, I would be happy to try this weekend. I have some wheels that the chrome is pealing on. I will let you know.

If your planning on using stripper, plan on repainting the lug areas with the correct color.

So are these wheels cleared? Or just over painted parts?
The entire wheels were cleared on the 83-84 h/o, I have a set on my car. In 85, they stopped clearing them, so the 85-87 442 wheels weren't cleared. I believe the 83-84 cutlass 14 in chrome SSIII'S were also cleared.

I have not tried to buff them with compound, yet, the clear has flaked off and the chrome is
really nice under it, I think that I will try aircraft stripper, in a small area and see what it does.

I recently stripped mine to the chrome using a cheap remover from auto zone. The chrome was perfectly fine, and the paint/clear came off with a good blast from the hose after the remover.

They will be fine
