Stunning 85' Grand Prix

I think the car looks pretty nice for $4500. I do not think the guy eliminated the chrome at all. I have seen a number of GP's with the chrome this guy has. If he eliminated it there wouldn'y be the low thin peice. The cars with the heavier chrome did not have this piece.

I personnaly think the car is better with less options. I spent allot of time eliminating the Landau, the chrome, the power windows, and such. GP's were ussually over optioned. This car is relatively rare (don't know if it really is but you do not see many with these options). Anyone can find a chromed-out, landau topped, v-6 GP.

why does everyone hate the chrome rockers? they were a nice touch and look good to IMO. to me if the car came with it, it should stay, I don't feel the same however when it comes to vinyl tops. alot of it has to do with finding the plastic clips to put it back on after it gets a repaint also. just the cheaper way to go in my opinion, and the sides of these car are too plain, the chrome adds to it. I thought about leaving all the chrome off my cutlass, but I'm glad i changed my mind to put it back on.....too many ppl take it off and mine are in excellent condition it'd be a shame...and i dont' mind spending the extra money to fork over on the clips. he's lucky if he gets $2000 for that car

No way... My brother got 2500 for his Monte SS with a carbed 350 and 350 trans out of his Suburban in it, with not nearly that nice of paint. It was the stock original black cherry paint with bubbles and rust coming through in places, and leaking T-tops.

The only thing that car had going for it was a an auburn posi, two inch drop springs and bilstien shocks, rear disk conversion, and American Racing Outlaw 1's. (after he took the 454 and the Be Cool rad out of it to put in his Corvette)

That car is much nicer than my brothers Monte... No way it'll go for 2,000.

Yeah I agree I only paid $2500 for my SS and it was loaded with new paint,t-tops,power everything, brand new goodmark hood,2 inch drop spindles, and the Torq thrust 2s

You guys are gone if you think this car is worth $4500!! If it is then my car is worth $9000!! And to the guys that don't like the chrome you are from the younger generation and don't appreciate good chrome because you didn't have any on the cars that you grew up with!! and to the guys that don't like many options like power windows and bucket seats and consoles,,,you must own a car that is so because if you had the options you would want them even more on your next car!! This is all a preference thing and in my opinion Grand Prix's look better with chrome than plastic they were born with chrome starting back in 1963!! and they look better with bucket seats and consoles,, that's how 90% of them were all through the sixties and seventies!! GM just got cheaper and took away most of these options!! I know that the bucket seats and consoles were rare in the eighties when i was looking for my car 11 out of 12 cars had the split bench and shifter on the column,, so i know how rare they are. The Grand Prix was the luxury sport model,,,,not the stripped down manual crank, dummy lights etc... models. To each his own!!

I am not a chrome lover, and the wide chrome at the bottom tends to hold dirt and cause rust undereath. Too many times by the time it is noticed, it's too late and the metal behind it is rotted.

I understand that,,,that is why i only drive my car in the summer for that last 20 years and there is no rust underneath it.

I like manual cranks, manual locks, and manual transmissions... Simple is better. The less chrome, trim, and electric crap on a car the better...

It's a preference, it's not that I haven't had both... I just like it better.

The only thing I think would have been nice on G-body's is vent windows, and I wish they had full door frames around the window glass. I never understand why someone would want to get rid of vent windows, they're awesome... On a hot day it works as good as A/C plus if you only open them a little they vacuum out cigarette smoke without having to put down your windows if it's cold. Nice feature if you ask me...

Don't get me wrong. I think a G should have bucket seats, a console, gages, and performance mods. I just don't think the cars need to be over-trimmed. Again, don't get me wrong, my car had the chrome and the landau when I started on it and it was very nice. but the car does not have to have them. This car does not and it looks good how it is. It really comes down to taste. I personnally like the stock(ish) performance look, with no chrome (like the Monte SS, 442, and GN).

I would say negotiate the guy down to 3500 then buy a set of buckets, a console, and a set of stock gages out of a bone yard. It is easy enough to swap these parts out. The body looks solid. If it runs like it looks, buy it. (for 3k-4k the car should need nothing mechanically)

It's a Pontiac, and there's bowties on the wheel centers. 'Nuff said.
