Super Chevy and Chevy High Performance Magazine

All those magazines missed an entire generation of GBody's too .....So screw um!!!

I quit paying for magazines back in the mid 90s. Their lack of support for everything other than Chevy made me want to puke my own s$$t. I was running Buick, Olds, Ford 429/460 and their 'throwing me a bone' about 3 times a year got old fast.

I was the guy you saw in Walmart reading at the magazine rack as my wife shopped. I just recently celebrated as I built my new 1200+hp capable TH400 with the money I saved by not letting them dupe me into buying magazines all these years.😛

I would always just read them in the bathroom and most of the multi year subscriptions would end up being less than a dollar per copy which in the long run reading those would save me money over bookmarking the pages of the FREE Jegs and Summit catalogs that would be the alternative.

For me I never had a magazine subscription. I would just go to the local car swap meets and usually get large boxes of magazines for 1 dollars for a box or sometimes free if I took them all the person had. Doing that twice a year would give me plenty of reading and to pass on to someone else afterwards.

There is SO much good forum and youtube content for free, that is available at the click of a finger, instantly searchable, from ACTUAL people doing projects I can't complain.

It's sad people lost their jobs sure, but most are new enough in the game they get paid for internet writing or other ways, so the majority of the young ones will bounce into other positions, most of the older ones that didn't want to change can retire.

I will say, I (or my work) have been in two magazines. The feeling of being featured in a magazine is a much larger feeling of accomplishment than writing about yourself online or making a video of yourself. However, I get much more interaction online. Magazines seem to put a wall up between the content (the person, the car, whatever) and the reader. When you make a video or write something, people can contact you directly, and its more unedited, pure, and to the point.

Magazines are (were?) great but its not like we have been abandoned with nothing to replace it.

I watch UTG quite a bit and this is about the best summary of it I can think.

Bad thing is as much good/usefull content there is on Youtube there are bad/useless/unsafe content on there. In the past print was able to produce tech info that was correctley researched, performed, explained in some understandable details that had references & contacts. Yes there are those on Youtube that still do the videos in that way but there are others that claim to be knowledgeable or subject matter expert that pass incorrect/miss leading info or perform the task in a unsafe way claiming it's an OK way. Print helped seperate the two but Youtube allows both as long they can produce revenue. Hate to say even here on this fourm there has been some of those "knowledgeable subject matter experts" that put out wrong info or fought that the correct info wasn't. I will embrace print as long as I can. Just call me a dinosaur.

I watched a YouTube video on TH400 direct and forward clutch pack rebuilding recently (I'm not sure why as I've done it many times). Anyway, the guy involved makes a good looking video on a nice looking bench. However he spit out more bad info and procedure than I've ever noticed on such a simple task. The net is full of all kinds of that crap and so are the forums. Many people are just regurgitating what they have heard or read, with zero experience and a car built by someone else.

Another example are the Edelbrock/Carter AFB sucks threads...……………………….. 😛

My reward for my years long subscription MCR. Glad I didn't renew Car Craft in Nov. So the cheap SOB's won't even send me paper copies of my choice.

After many great years and achievements, Muscle Car Review magazine has been discontinued.

The good news is that in Muscle Car Review 's place, you'll receive the digital edition of your choice of MotorTrend, HOT ROD or Four Wheeler magazine along with six months of the world's premier online automotive streaming service, MotorTrend.

MotorTrend's streaming service bring you over 3,500 hours of the best streaming automotive shows and exclusives series including Roadkill, Dirt Every Day, Diesel Brothers, Top Gear, Fast N' Loud, Bitchin' Rides, Hot Rod Garage, Head 2 Head, Wheeler Dealers, Four Wheeler and so much more, including live motorsports. No cable TV account is necessary and you can watch on your favorite devices.

yep... and when i get done reading them, i normally pass a stack on to some of my friends -- who really enjoy them also.
A co-worker of mine gives me his magazines when he finishes with them (Thank You, Tom). Also, as a former post would suggest, the paper copy can be used/read in the garage without worry of being damaged by dropping it, getting it greasy,
or spilling something on it (spilling could mess it up, but it's not an expensive replacement).
