I will be swapping a Super T10 in a place where TH350 used to live. I would like my shifter to be in the same location as the auto shifter in my console used to be. Is this possible ? Was anyone successful with this shifter placement ?

Our cars only came with the Saginaw manual transmission. It had a shifter mounting plate that moved the shifter about six inches forward of where a traditional shifter would mount. That was to clear the bench seat that was standard issue. Any other trans like an ST-10 or Muncie would have the shifter mounted at the tail end. I doubt that the shifet handle would locate in the same spot as the auto trans shifter.

HEY! GNVAIR! You were the guy that solved this! Don't be shy, that thing you did was genius! Here is the thread: https://gbodyforum.com/threads/inst...thout-moving-the-original-shifter-hump.76444/ This gets the shifter as close to stock as possible.

I solved Super T10 in stock location.
Getting the shifter to come up in the console could be done with typical rear shifter locations which would probably put it towards the front of the console. Getting the stick centered would require a 68-72 Chevelle console shifter
F Body shifters have weird angles to them that's why I would avoid those.

Maybe the one for the Saginaw. Mine from my '72 has an adapter like mount that pushed the shifter over towards the middle more than a normal style. Even included a block to center it more for the console.

This is the one I am talking about and it's for Muncies but could fit other transmissions

I wish I had my older Hurst catalog handy to cross its applications. I know the only reason they still list the shifter for the Saginaw in our cars is the same p/n is listed for 2nd gen Camaro's with a Muncie or a Borg Warner.

In my 1968 Firebird I put a 1979 ST-10. By using the 1968 Firebird Saginaw bent-over shifter, I got it to fit the OEM console. BUT- I had to have friend fabricate a mount that fit the ST-10/Hurst shifter. It is one of none.

I was looking for reference pictures and stumbled upon this thread...
Didn't realize the later years didn't have the "bread box" but wherever the Hurst shifter placed the shifter dictated where we relocated the center console forward with some home depot angle shelf brackets.

After reading gnvair's thread...ironically in the pursuit of better mpg, some point in the venture the 3.73s rear got swapped for 2.73s which really sucked with the M20s 2.5x 1st. To get back some of that get up and go, I swapped in a Saginaw with a 3.11 1st. I fashioned a piece of aluminum stock that bolted up to the saginaw which in turn the Hurst shifter bracket bolted onto that. Can't remember which but seem to recall I had to custom fabricate the reverse shifter rod, 1 of the forward gears shifter rod and the remaining worked in it's stock form. Worked great!!! Never blew it up but there was always that after thought after jumping on the go pedal!!!
