You correct 69hurstolds those LR shifter balls do have marking on them. Thats what he did put the ones he purchased from you on his shifter and selling the others on Ebay. He's not selling those as a set , its on their as each . I just received a message from Ebay if I would like to make an offer on those shifter balls. He's not the first person that pulls this sh*t on Ebay. I have seen a trend for the past 6-7 years of Repop parts boxed in an original GM box and being sold on Ebay as NOS.

Good to know. I noticed too, that valve cover BOXES ONLY ad is still on fleabay. For only $99, you can rebox some repro valve covers and try to pass them off as NOS GM stuff. Friggin' bastages. I noticed there was no mention of such a dastardly thing to do in the ad, figuring only the turd burglars looking to do such a thing would consider such an outrageous price for boxes.

While it is true that on a new knob the inside drill bore for the button is not finished to a smooth surface, it doesn't have vertical wear marks in it until it's mounted and you start using the release buttons scraping up and down on the sides. Those vertical marks seem to be present on the pics as well as the left one looks marred on the bottom. The pictures I take for the ads are the exact parts I sell (unless it's multiple stuff). Here's the pictures of the exact knobs I sent him:

And here's what a packaged for retail knob looks like. Note the inner finish is, well, not finished. But no vertical wear marks. I slightly trimmed the plastic to get good pics.

Like I said, I can't prove anything, but it sure looks fishy. Some people may not be aware of what to look for. But at his asking price, that alone will likely scare away people. Ironically, he did leave me positive feedback, so I couldn't do anything else but leave him positive feedback as well because he did pay for it immediately.

So, message him and ask him if he cares to post in this thread to clarify what's going on.

I know next to nothing about Lightning Rods, and I really have no dog in this hunt, but we do seem to be maligning his character without all the facts

"we" as in me, is not maligning his character. Hence the use of words like suspect" and a question mark. That's the point. To simply flag it and how to tell if LR knobs are still "virgin". I have no idea his intentions. But the facts can lend one to speculate.

1) He is the same person who purchased a new (I know for a fact they were new) set of knobs from me on Nov 16.
2) He received them per tracking on Tuesday, Nov 20.
3) He advertises a "new" set of knobs on Thursday, Nov 22. With the suspiciously same looking little baggies that I sent with the knobs he purchased.
4) His pictures aren't great, but it APPEARS they do not match up exactly with the knobs I sent him. I'm going to have to retract my "definitely not the ones I sent him" comment, because I cannot tell 100% from the pictures alone, so I'm speculating they may be another set or ones that he may have pulled off his own shifter. Or the crappy pics and reflections simply make them look worse, and they are the exact knobs I sent him.
5) I'm not implicating him or accusing him of any wrongdoing. Every interaction I have had with him is a non-issue. I was simply checking out parts on ebay when I saw them, and I have the inside scoop on at least part of the story, so that raised a red flag for me to alert the crew here about the potential situation. It could be nothing, it could be something. Buyer beware.
6) It's very possible he just flips parts, who knows? If he is a flipper...Good luck with that.

The "we" I referred to was the membership at large.

Maybe he's a dirtbag peddling used as new. Maybe he's a flipper who thought he saw a chance to get rich quick. Maybe "we" would hope that if people were looking at buying something "we" had for sale and had questions about condition/origin, "we" would hope somebody would ask rather than just immediately assume "we" were pulling a fast one.

Frankly, his pics suck so badly, I would have a hard time making any judgement on condition. That said, the one knob does look funky, could be damage, could be lint for all I know. Luckily, I'm not in the position of needing them, so it's not an issue for ME

No animosity is intended to any of the parties involved, I just think people are sometimes quick to get out the pitchforks
