after hearing elco warren and others talk aboutr changing their suspension i was wondering what some good simple suspension upgrades for a Cutlass Supreme

all depends on how serious you would want to get, if you wanna stay on the cheap side without buying alot of aftermarket stuff, new poly bushings anywhere you can, poly body bushings. replace worn out shocks and springs. Also get f-41 sway bars (if your car wasnt equipped with them) easy way to tell is no rear swaybar, f-41 came with a rear swaybar and a bigger front. Also a f body with the ws6 or 1le code you can use their 36mm hollow front swaybar (an f41 bar is 32mm, normal f body is a 34mm). Other than that if you want to get real serious look into aftermarket suspension like UMI, Spohn, Hotchkis or Detroit Speed. UMI and Spohn are reasonably priced and hotchkis and DSE are overpriced for being used in TV shows IMO.

what are you looking to do with it? Just better suspension on the road? or serious handling? or drag?

The best place to start is with a quick ratio steering box from a 3rd gen f body. And some will say your tie rods will rub on full lock when the suspension is rebounding or something, I have no problems with mine and if I did it's a friggin cutlass not stingray so I don't care. I picked up mine for 15$ and 5$ worth of power steering fluid.

best place with these cars to start is probably frame bracing and sway bars. If you car doesn't have a rear sway bar that is certainly priority number 1 and will change the feel of you car. You could also potentially upgrade to a bigger front sway bar. after that there are certain braces (some more rare than others) like firewall to fenders, i've heard of ones behind the rear seats that are supposed to help a lot., core support to fenders. stuff like that. some people also take angle iron and tie the two rear bumper brackets together, haven't heard too much about the advantage of that but i suppose it couldn't hurt

bracing and swaybars, IMO should be done last. Do your suspension first then find flex points and stiffen areas of the car.

Get the steering quicker, get the wheels/tires, shocks/springs, rollbars, bracing. If done this way you get the best returns possible with each step.

The best thing you can do is replace your dried and worn 27 year old rubber suspension bushings with new ones.

Whether you replace them with rubber or polyurethane is up to you.

I got a front sway bar you can have over here. We can paint it up and get some Energy bushings from the Zone.. Get some used upper/lower control arms and have some new bushings pressed in. I have a guy that does em for cheap. New front/rear springs and shocks. Alignment and you should be good. You can do the performance setup later when your loot is right. Thats all I did on my Elco. I replaced all the worn out stuff.
