i find a 76 rear end out of a tran am. the man said it had 373 put in it. and i want to know more about this rear end because i what to swap out my 7.5 in my 85 cutlass, so will this fit or not?.. can any one help me asap. thank guys

No the TA rear is leaf springs and you have coil spring I also believe the TA rear is wider so even if you wanted to cut the brackets and weld new one you cant without narrowing it also. Not really worth it foe a 8.5 rear keep lookin

X2.................Try to grab an 8.5 out of a T-Type, G.N.,442 or Hurst Olds.........Those are the only true bolt ins.....You can also go for a 66-72 Chevelle 12 bolt rear...these reals will bolt right up..They are 2-3" wider but not much of a difference....If you go that rout grab the 12 bolt to G-body swap control arms of UMI Performance or Iceman racing..Good luck

ok i been looking for a 8.5, but they seem real hard to find. so i wounding will it be a good idea to change out my rear end gear's and get posi in my 7.5. any idea guy?

Thats what I am doing to the 82, 3.42 gear and a Power Trax no slip carrier. I have a 73 Cutlass with an 8.5, 3.73 and a posi and beat the snot out of it with a BBO and it has never missed a beat. AS long as you are not out racing it every weekend it should hold up for what you need.
