I finally had a day where i felt pretty confident that i could hit the road and test out the performance of my engine swap. And I gotta say THANK GOODNESS!! Finally I have more snot behind the wheel!

I have a lot of hills where i live and where i usually drive to and after the first hill I actually thought" wait did i get to that monster hill yet?" I flew up that hill while before i would be flooring the car and getting no where looking at the birds flying over me. but not today!!

The power and response was very noticeable. I would like to advance the timing a bit but I will wait till i break in the engine a little bit before I do that.

I still have not been on the highway with it. Hopefully this week.

So anyone that wants to know if it's worth it to get rid of your 307 to a 350 olds the answer is 1000 times YES! do not waste good money on anything else!

Very good swap. The later swirl port 307's everyone complaines power wise. I went from a couple of 5A 307 to an Olds 350 and 403, great upgrades. Run around 36 total timing, in by 3K. Stock lower compression Olds V8's like around 20 base with HEI. I run 30 degree vacuum advance, right off idle on my low compression Olds V8's.

LOL the Good O'l hill climb I'd rather that 307 then my 3.8 aha . Pics of the swap

So if you were cruising on the highway at 3k+, you'd be at 66* of total advance ( 36 total mechanical all in +30 for vacuum advance )? That seems crazy high to me.

And yeah, 350 > 307!

Since I wasn't there I couldn't take pics of everything going down. And If I could have been there I would have at the minimum wiped down the rest of the engine compartment. I'm just going to have to wait till it warms up so i can brighten up everything that surrounds engine.

I asked why the mechanic didn't delete all the wires that are no longer needed and he said that he didn't want to in case i was putting things back :blam: RIGHT... Like the air pump was going back into this and the cruise controls?

here's a link to where I posted all the pics and i'll post 1 in this thread.

It is crazy high. I never noticed any pinging with all that timing. The 9 to 1 Olds 350 in my 4x4 has much lazier timing. Strange when chebby put on the swirl port heads, they took a ton of timing out. With 21 base instead of the factory 0, I get 45-50 total. Olds went crazy on their swirl port 307, 60 plus. Of course the knock sensor could be playing into this but have read the sbc needed less timing with the swirl port heads. How many sbc run 20 for base timing, none that I know of. Olds like more timing, has to be with their design differences. I know my 81 Delta 88 got the best mpg out of it's NO CCC 307 with 19 at 1100. I tried many different settings, factory was 16 for it. I actually saw as low as 13 base on a 307 powered Delta. I set one at that and it didn't run as nice. What year is your 350?

I have no idea what the timing is set at currently but I will get all that info shortly. And as far as what year the engine is I haven't a clue. The guy I bought it from doesn't remember when he rebuilt it so I have to check the block for #'s. I would safely say late 70's.That's why I paid $$ for the labor to have everything inspected before throwing it in.

I know my 85 Buick Lasabre Limited had a GREAT 307 in it and that is one reason why i didnt think I would have headaches when I bought this car. BOY WAS I WRONG! I never had to do a thing to that car but the occasion tune up. She spun her tires when i took off from a parking spot w/out even trying!

Just a little heads up.. I really don't know much about ports, swirls and where timings should be etc.. and I have no clue what you mean your 9-1 olds <shrug shoulders> I'm just not that advanced

It's super crappy video but it's the audio that is important for everyone to hear on the 1st one. This is one of the hills I have to navigate on a daily basis. It's actually a mountain side as you can see the railings and Yes that is a nice cliff drop off

This 2nd one is me messing with it. You can hear when I get on her. The needle was pinned at 85 and I had plenty of pedal left. Sorry guys about the music.
