Here's the deal.
I don't know a push rod from a cam shaft. I just got a library card and plan to start to build some/any kind of engine knowledge.
All I know now is that the engine in my '88 has 215,000 kms. on it and is barely getting me up to speed on the highway to work.
I'm not a rich guy by any means but I am financially secure enough to buy the engine I want as well as having someone install it.
Has anyone done this swap?
The car has a 200r4 transmission.
I'm sure with this thread I have proven to be a TRUE noob, but please don't trash me too badly. I am most certainly going to begin the learning process once attending the library.

It would be the same as your standard SBC transplant (besides the fuel injection setup) Just don't let somebody get you too bad on the installation. Do you know somebody that can do it, professionally :?:

Yes Ritter, I have some connections through my job who are trust worthy men.
I also have a very good transmission guy who also works on rear ends.
Hopefully the current trans and rear will not need extensive $$ upgrading.

Hey. Your going to need everything for the 350 chevy (motor mounts, pulleys, water and fuel pump, fan) because the 307 Oldsmobile parts I don`t think will work.

Doug

You are correct Doug. I will be dipping deep into my car savings to have this swap done properly, but I'm not getting any younger and want to spend as much time driving what I want for a change.
Roy.

What makes you want the ramjet? Are you talking about the GM Ramjet 350? I ask because thats not a whole lot of engine for the price. You could build a much better engine for way less or swap in an lt1 or ls1 for less.

I thought of the ram jet after seeing one in a fellows car. It looked good, sounded great, and being a nobody as far as engine smarts go,thought that an engine with a 2 year-20,000 km. warranty might suit my needs.
Seems to me a lot easier to have peace of mind rather than paying someone to fix ANY problem that might arise.

Also a contributing factor is that I've never owned any car, boat, lawnmower for that matter, that wasn't someones hand-me-down.
Just gotta have a new one.

I hear ya on the warranty. There are plenty out there though with a warranty that give you a little more value for your dollar. If you want the Ramjet then do it up, it's your cash. Since ya said your a noob I figured I'd let ya know there are other options.

Thanks Chris, that's why I joined here. Nothing has been done so far,so if a change of mind happens I haven't made any bad decisions. I'm not rushing into it and therefore appreciate all replies.
I wish though that I had some imput to share and not just ask questions.
