fellas, i have owned my 81 olds calais for 30 years. have swapped from the original 260 to an olds 350/turbo 350 trans. but 10 yrs ago or so decided to do something a lil different.

i had bought an 88 chev silverado brand new and drove for couple years before selling to my dad. he went on to put over 300,000 miles on the thing. we pulled that motor and replaced with a reman 350 from local supplier. the old engine sat in barn for several years. we then decided to rebuild that 350 from truck and put in my olds with a 700r4. it was to be a project for us. we got the engine completely rebuilt .030 over and picked up a 700r4. got the engine/trans/crossmember/driveshaft installed. i used accessories and serpentine system from 88 engine. dad got sick and eventually passed.

he has been gone 6 yrs now and car has sat untouched ever since.

i finally have some motivation to work on it again. but couple things have me confused. since the chev starter is on pass side the wires will need to be lengthened. but chev starter has 2 posts and olds wiring has 3 leads? also alternator wiring is different. i am sure i will fave other obstacles, but for now i would like to start with these little issues. if i could make some kinda progress it would motivate me to do more.

i am really not wanting to start a pissing contest about runnning a chevy engine in an olds. that has been beat to death. this engine means alot to me and the car even more. so this is what it is and no amount of shaming will make any difference. so lets just not go there. if this sorta thing offends you then simply move along to another thread.

any help you guys can give with these issues or anything else i may be facing will be greatly appreciated..

beautiful calais!!! as for the wiring, you can just splice into the existing wiring and add what you need for the starter, and lengthen.as fop the alt, napa makes a pigtail adapter to go from the old 2prong plug to the newer 3 prong plug(with built in resistor)-its plug and play, and around 20.00.or you can solder on a newer one from a newer 350? let me know if you go that route and ill mail you one for the big sum of the 3.95 it will cost for the padded envelope😉LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING THIS CALAIS "ON THE ROAD AGAIN"!!!! maybe our buddy pencero will chime in,as he is very knowledgeble,A GREAT person and owns a very nice 88 cutty supreme brogham as well?,he is in michigan city.

thanks for reply..

i am aware that i need to lengthen starter wires, was more needing to know how to attach them to starter. the chevy starter has 2 posts while wiring from car has 3 leads. do i stack the 2 smaller wires to one post or do i not use one of em?

and i may or may not be able to keep the accessories from pick up on my car. they seem to sit kinda high and may not clear hood. but can use everything for now to just get running.

would be cool to meet other folks locally as these cars are becoming harder and harder to find. and most of of em i see are in pretty poor condition. mine came from texas while i lived there for couple years. so has no rust and showing a whopping 46,000 miles!

Are you talking about the batter is on the drivers side for olds? If so just move it to the others side the plastic inners have a spot for both olds and Chevy

no, i am well aware of being able to move battery to pass side. i am speaking of wiring that connects to starter. it has 3 leads. starter has 2 posts. i was just wondering how to connect it.

Just move the battery along with the battery cables over to the right side. Then grab a chevy engine harness from a scrap yard.

a "chevy engine harness"? i never thought of that. what would that consist of and where does it hook up to car. i would like to know before i head to junkyard so i know exactly where to look and where to unhook from car.

i assume we are talking about the entire under hood wiring harness. i hope that plugs in somewhere and i don't have to cut/splice wires. guess i will go out and look on mine to see where it connects.
