That is spot on about the valves too and treating the rust w marvel works wonders. Of course you should keep your dad's memory alive I was just saying that if it was mine I'd be afraid to stray to far from stock. Didn't mean to sound cold saying 'build something else' I just was saying the 88 blocks aren't the best to modify, like if a person was expecting 3-400 hp it's not the best but as long as a person has reasonable expectations from it, can last forever babied.

If a person in Indiana or SW MI did want 3 - 400hp though my friend wants this 5.3 LS gone this week

pulled the plugs today and squirted some atf in each hole. went riding bike for few hours and came back to rotate engine a few times and was stuck... i put a pipe around ratchet and got it to budge a lil, then it got easier! upper rad hose was in way so moved it so i had a clear path to run it over several more times but it stuck. i removed valve covers and loosened all rocker nuts to relieve spring pressure and no go. will leave it soak a few days and try again.

now that i have been thinking bout this a bunch, am curious.... how much work is it to pick up a 5.3 drivetrain from boneyard. motor/trans with all associated bits from a wreck and install into this thing. i assume would be alotta work but i bet that would be a sweet set up!

no need for a bone yard...the homie brad will hook you up on a 5.3/4l60 combo and propably help you get it up and running!!! not to mention the opportunity to meet a great fellow cutty owner😉

I think if you were to come here I could get him to give you the whole truck for a thou, if you can move it, his wife just wants it out of the driveway LAX saw pics and i was talking to him on the trans possibly, the damage is front end / a wheel bearing collapsed everything else is intact though.

The body had some rust and its 2wd, thats why he isnt just going to 'fix' it

A little different ha ha ha! You mean the same as everyone and their dog. Those swirl port truck motors were gutless. Best thing I did was replace it with an Olds 350, which even in the 70's would go 300,000 km and take out that knocking swirl port junk in my 94 4x4. A simple cam swap would have fixed your Olds 350. At least add EFI, the serpentine set up and decent after market heads, otherwise why bother with a chevy 350?

I was assuming he wanted to go mechanical, or do some towing? ^ that is a good question though, if not.

i am glad everyone and their dog is doing it as that must mean it is doable and the bugs have been worked out. nice! still not decided what i will do though. kinda hoping i get this motor loosened up.
