Wife had similar incident over 20 years ago. Before cellphones, but kid in camaro t-boned her 89 formula firebird at the rear wheel. She had pains for years & still has a little knee irritation.
Kid had the nerve to show up at our house a year later asking if my wife would sign something so he could get a license back, not his first wreck.

+1 on the attempted vehicular homicide charge but...………. some bleeding heart lawyer and a legal system swamped with too many indictments for the wrong things will almost guarantee the perp won't get what he/she deserves.

Damn, I am so glad that your son will recover from this accident or should I say from this act of negligence on the other drivers part.
