My apologies betcha618, I assumed that this was a DD and visibility was more of a concern than seeing the tach. Please don't take any offense from my comment, it was not intended that way. It doesn't sound like u did, though. Just making your comments as well as I did.

FWIW, I did consider putting my Tach there, but visibility was more of a concern for me.

I didn't take any offense. i guess I've always put my tachs there even on my DD so i'm used to it being there. it feels wierd to me to drive a car that doesn't have a tach there.

what about cutting the clock out and puttingit there

I did this on a 1982 Malibu back in the day. I used a cheap parts store tach, disassembled it, put the tach "face" over the gutted clock so that it was sandwiched between the tach face and mechanism. I think I had to drill 2 small holes for the face screws, but this was a LONG time ago. I'm gonna do it again sometime on my new '81, so I'll post pics when I do it.
Oh, I ran a wire from the coil and radio circuit to the tach, but used the original cluster illumination. I don't remember modifing the cluster in any other way, but don't use the clock power wire, you need one that is switched.

On a scale of 1-10, it was about a 2. Not as easy as peel and stick, but close. Hard was the 130 mph '77 Camaro speedo, I had to cut and bend the face like crazy to get it in there.
