hey guys, i just put a new tank and sending unit in the cutlass, and one of the 2 straps was seized up at the bolt behind the exhaust, so we took out the 2 pivot bolts by the bumper and dropped the old tank, took the ground and pink wire off the old sending unit, then when we put the new tank and sending unit in it was litterally more than a b***h to do, took us 3 hours to get the one stap in because of the seized bolt, and i filled up the tank and fired the car today, and the gauge read full, so i went to the back of the car to check ground and pink wire (im assuming power), the ground was attached, but the pink wire isnt. is there any possible easy way to hook that wire up? or can i wire in an aftermarket gauge? any possible suggestions, the one strap comes out and goes in with no issues it's just the left side strap.... shitty situation...

nothing? i know it's a stupid sitatuion and should be an easy fix, but some input would be awesome?

On a two wire set up, the hot must be hooked up and the ground as well. the sender is just a resistance on the circuit. so you will have to find that wire and splice it, with or without an aftermarket gauge. use some pb blaster or deep creep on that bolt and let it sit for a while. then tap it with a hammer lightly and it should come off or cut it off and replace it.

Peace...

but isnt there possibly a way wehre i can drop the tank down on one side and reach up to the unit and plug in the hot?

You might be able to. The wire coming off the sending unit is about 20"s or so in length, so you might be able to reach up in there blindly and attach the wires. Can't remember how long the hot wire is, but anything is possible.

the hot is plugged at the back of the tank...if you look up between the bumper and the tank you should see the wire coming from the harness for the tank.... if you can't see the wire form the tank if you remove your licence plate housing you should be able to see the wire coming from the tank and if not you can probably use something to slide in to catch the wire...

i see the hot, it's just not plugged in at the tank, thats my only issue, but i still havent done anything with the tank yet, it'll get done soon though, waiting on a decent sized paycheque so i can start picking up sheetmetal & rivit gun, rivits, some pb blaster, possibly an impact gun & see if i can't break that bolt loose, sheet metal & rivit gun is for the floor boards i have to deal with
