You could go lok at the way a old corvettes targa top goes on the ones from the 90s just have 4 screws that hold them in. now tha t think about it the 84s up untill 96 before they changed to the C5 vette i think they all where screw in tops

This is a big project. If you are going to do it, YOU need to figure out the attachment and sealing of it. That is the only way to really understand what the plan is from start to finish. look at some targas, sunroofs, t-tops. there are lots of latches, seals, ect around the salvage yards. You will have to order the weatherstrip it is easy to find and fit. Pay close attention to the channels and or drains that necessary to keep out (most) of the water Take your time and plan carefully. this project could easily (likely) ruin a car, but I know it can be done. I have converted a few mini trucks to convertible, they all leaked a little somewhere. Then there are the squeaks and rattles that will be there. I'm not knocking your project or idea, just being the voice of reality and experience. If that is a look you want I say go for it. It would not be worth the work for an old guy like me. I just want mine to stop, go, and turn like a vette.............and be all shiny 😀

Good luck and keep us posted

How about making the center bar removable? Still use the tops and center brace but fab up the center to come out. You may get by with modifying the factory seals, plus it would be easier to stow away. A one piece top would be sizable.
I had an older Porsche 911 a few years ago and the targa top on that folded for storage. It latched in just like a convertible because they used the cabrio windshield frame. It leaked and squeaked a little, but the biggest downfall was the poor handling. I was very disappointed with the body flex during cornering.

couldn't you use t-top parts to latch the targa down? I don't know about the weatherstripping issue, I would use a trunk seal and mod it to work as its long enough to go the width of the car and seems easy to fab a groove to hold it in. as for losing structural rigidity, put in a 4 point cage and a swing out so you can still have passengers in the back.

The weather stripping is the easy part just get the t-top stuff and cut the center part of the t out then use black RTV to glue the left and right sides into one big peice. You just got to take your time and match the ends so they look like one. I have dealer t-tops so the weather stripping inm looking at way be a little different from what you guy have with factory T-tops.
