Plus I want to tweak the transmission shift points a bit.

The computer does not control the transmission shift points.

If He swaps to a 4L60e like he mentioned in the first post it does.

Hmmm, I guess I missed that part. I guess I just assumed he would not bother with the hassles of a Chevy transmission on an Olds motor.

I will be using the 4L0E electronic control much better than the tv cable, I've used 4 of them in swaps. I have the adapters for both tbi and transmission.
Thanks for the info guys, anything else you have will be appreciated. 8)

Well since you asked, and I'm curious, I have something for you. A question  . What are the expected benefits from doing all this with the transmission? Seems like alot of work and expense to do, but other than perhaps the 'cool factor', I don't see what the benefits are, so I guess I'm missing something. Is the 4L60e way stronger than your 2004r and you need the extra durability for a future engine swap? Does electronically controlled shift points really make a difference?

Is that the stock controller and harness for the trans and the adapters for the tbi. Want to use a newer trans as well and would love to see some pics to give me a visual on this idea. What crosmember do you need for this as well. Pics Please. :blam:

Electronic controls just function better, takes all the cable adjustment, governor issues away from the equation, allows electronic adjustablity to shift points, firmness, lock up points, etc... Gives me a better first gear ratio for street driving with the cam I have in a smaller engine. I can get a good 2wd 60e for $400, I would be changing torque convertors anyway, so why not? I've done several swaps using LT1/4L60e combos and they work so well I didn't see any good reason not to and since I'm going efi, why not just get a pcm and harness that will control the transmission as well? This is just a T-top cruiser, I figure make it as slick a cruiser as I can.

My pcm will control the transmission as well as efi functions, the adapters are for bolting the transmission to the engine and the tbi adapter in the pic I posted. You can get by without the transmission/tc adapter by replacing the dowels with bolts, but that's even too redneck for me! 😀

The 4L60E in my truck shifts around 4500 rpm full throttle shifts. Much better than my 2004r did. New $8 governor seems much better than the original stock but still on stands. Nice not to have to worry about the TV cable, especially is you are running adapters which might throw off geometry. I used the factory 454 adaptor and plugged the coolant lines. Raises the TB "1 and fits the factory A4 like a glove. With short tires that first gear may be ridiculous and annoying. My 350 with same gearing but tall tires moves nicely off the line. I will say again, get the programable computers out there for the TBI. Olds like a much more aggressive timing curve than the sbc. I am sure if I got one, a couple of mpg would be easy to pull out of my truck. I just don't want to waste many more dollars on this truck.

Well Randy_W, if you want to get rid of your stock OZ coded transmission and it's in good shape, let me know.

It works fine, nice firm shifts and it will be for sale.
