Teach me something about transmissions

My question is: will any shifter work for any transmission? I just discovered dual gate shifters and they look like the coolest things ever next to lightening rods. If I were to get a dual gate shifter, maybe from an F body or and oldsmobile or something, would it hook right up to a 200R4?

I know it seems sort of ricer-esque to have nice shifters without a real motor :lol:

I think you can get a gate for them to be converted for OD use. Its okay to not have a real motor. As long as you enjoy the vehicle.

Answer to your question is no. The shifters are universal only to a class of transmission and even then not always interchangeable. So if you have a 2 speed , 3speed, 4speed, etc transmission you have to get a corresponding shifter that is designed for that many gears.

Not without a transmission control unit. That transmission is electronically controlled for shifts
