I have an 84 MC SS. my temp gauge was not working so I disconnected the wire going to the sending unit and put it to ground. When I turned the key to the on position the gauge spiked all the way to the top. So I assumed that meant the sending unit was bad. Just installed a new sending unit and let the car run for 10 minutes. Gauge still not rising. What else could be going on? I'm lost.......

First guess: did you accidentally install a new temperature switch rather than a sensor?

Damn..........this is what I put in.

The guy at the store told me that it was the same thing as a sending unit. I guess my mistake for listening to him.

At least it is an easy fix.
