If your not planning on keeping the th 400 in your car then why not just put that 200 transmission in for now if it works ok till you find another 350.....

th200 doesn't bolt up to a 350

I think he's talking about his daily driver and he did say he didn't want to put the th 200 in...

the 400 will go in sometime withing the next few weeks when i get the time, ive got all the parts i think, so now ive just gotta bring the transmission up to the shop and do it.

If i remember correctly you can swap the tailhousing out of a th375 and put it on the th400 to retain the 2004r or th350 trans pad location i cant remember which one, but could be the th350....

You remember incorrectly. First, there are two different TH375s, the original TH375 which was a light duty TH400 with the TH350 output shaft diameter (not length), and the TH375B, which is a beefed up TH350. The TH375B tailhousing won't bolt up to a TH400, and you'd need to swap the output shaft as well as the tailhousing to use the one from the original TH375. You have to completely disassemble the trans to change the output shaft, and when you're done, you'll still have the trans mount in the same place as on the regular TH400.

good luck finding a th375, but seeing as it is a th400 with a different housing, he could also find a short tail th400 with better luck.

The short tail TH400 IS the one that requires the 200-4R crossmember. All the other versions of the TH400 are longer still.

You could also weld a thick heavy piece of steel on the crossmember toward the back of the car (a few inches back after you drill the hole where the mount needs to be. it'd take 10 minutes and you wouldn't need to move the crossmember.

Yeah, you can but structurally this sucks. Look at any factory trans crossmember and you will note that the trans mount location is in a direct line with the attachment locations at the frame ends. This is done so the crossmember takes pure bending loads and no torsional loads. Welding a tab to the crossmember induces torsional loads in the crossmember and the frame rail lower flanges. Just because people do it doesn't make it a good idea.

OH, 😳 I thought they were the same. I have a th375 tailhousing i hung onto after a transmission class i took awhile back. I was the understanding that it was a direct bolt-on to keep the trans pad in the same location..

The TH400 is 3" longer than the TH350 in the main trans case alone. The tailhousing can't make up that difference.
