Alright guys, I'm a little stumped as to my transmission. It shifts very cleanly, but the Column shifter has no tension (As in it doesn't snap back when I pull it towards the steering wheel). Another problem is that the transmission seems to slip out of gear if I'm not holding the trottle down enough to raise the Rpms high enough to hear the change in Revs. The shifter also just doesn't seem to do anything while driving and sometimes stopped. I was driving the car to get a better view on the problem and the shifter arm fell out of drive and into first and I saw no change. At first I saw this as what most people would see it as. I thought I must of been in first. So I ran the truck up to 60 while holding the arm in drive. At 60 I let go of the shifter and sure enough it fell right in first. I know I was in third, but still I saw no change. Sorry for the short story guys, but I'm not good with transmissions and I'm learning about them over the internet.

By the way this problem is going on in an 86 El Camino that I'm starting to buy the stuff to do a manual transmission swap for, but I'd still like to drive it on the weekends. If anybody can help that would be greatly appreciated. I looked for these problems, but I never found something that helped with degree of problems I'm having. I thought I would explain my situation as well as possible to you guys

Sounds to me like it's not so much transmission as it is gear selecter. I would go over the column linkage, sounds like there is some worn parts.
