Im new to this site, so bare with me if I posted in the wrong thread. I have a 79 cutlass supreme brougham; v8 260 4.3. Its pretty much my everday going-to-work car. Im in the process of restoring it. Ive done most of the work my self. It has the stock piece of sh*t transmission in it which is going out. I will be buying a rebuilt th350 and installed for $1000. I was wondering, even though my engine is on the weaker side, will a shift kit make much of a difference :?:

Well if the new one has been completely rebuilt which for the price it should be than yea it'll feel a little more stout because the old trans is 30 years old and all the old clutches are barley holding on at this point.

A shift kit makes a big difference and they are inexpensive. I know I paid under $100 for my Transgo shift kit in my 700r4.

My concern would be how much they are charging you for the trans and installation. I paid $500 for my th350 full rebuilt from a shop, but most of the time you can get them for $400 or cheaper. Which means they are getting you over on labor charges. Not trying to be a dick or anything, just giving a heads up.

I forgot to add in that im also getting new exhaust installed. flowmaster 40 series duals which is included in the $1000. And yea I agree thats pricey. I live in rancho cordova, california and this is the cheapest I could find. All the other transmission shops wanted $1300 or $1500.

That's a lot for a 350 trans,TCI master o-haul kit $150, B&M shift kit $28, new converter like $80. Dual exhaust from two different shops in PHX Area with flowmaster 40's $450 -$550. I would shop around a bit more .

Glad I don't live in California. That's completely outrageous to charge that much for a th350. I have almost a grand invested in my 700r4 and I'm installing it myself.... Just a thought.

For that price i would think you are getting a deal Trans rebuilds cost me 300 with out install labor. Daul exh cost about 450-500 so going buy that it only leaves 200 to 250 for labor on the trans install i would say thats a good deal.

lol, in my city the shop want about $2500 to rebuild a TH350, but it includes a new converter...

I only found this out because I wanted a shift kit installed. But the guy refused to install a shift kit unless I let him rebuild my (less than 30000 mile) transmission first. And this is after he charged me $260 to change my speedo gears. :blam:
