Hey guys, I am looking to swap my th400 for the th2004r that is out of a GN and I was wondering if the stock torque converter would work for my application (see signature)or should I get a higher stall. Thanks
You don't list cam specs or peak torque. The GN converter I think stalled around 2,200 with 355 foot pounds of torque coming in early like a mildly cammed long stroke Pontiac 455 might. The 455 might push that to guessing 2,400. Does that take full advantage of your cam? Anywhere near peak torque?
I scoped out your pics. Cool car. I like the fact that you made the factory oil pressure and temp guages work with the 455. I did that in my 442 with the Cadillac 509.
Thanks for the replys, the cam is a Competition 268h and according to the specs the rpm range is wide from 1500-5500 so somewhere in the middle is my power band maybe 2200 to 3000? I just want to know if the GN stock torque converter will be good enough for my motor before I buy it along with the 2004r. Thanks!
I am going through the same thing with my car. I am going to 200r4 from extrememe automatics and Brian Weaver from Gbody is helping me make the correct choices. He suggested tonight that i run a 12" 2500 stall, the converter that I have in my th350 2200 rpm will not be enough he says.
