It's called hot rodding. Same reason people put 396 engines in 57 Chevys. You take 20-30 year old cars and put "more modern" drivetrains in them. Lots of times they call it restifying. Looks stock or some variant of mostly stock, but the underpinnings are all updated to the better stuff that makes it safer/faster/better/lighter, etc., but isn't quite as noticeable. Like if you see that Monte SS on the street, even if you put stock wheels and restriped it, as long as you didn't open the hood, it might be hard to tell the engine wasn't a 305 just sitting there.With most of these spotlighted builds with G bodies anymore, it seems popular to rip all the 80s ouf of the 80s cars. Which begs the question, why the hell did you even buy a 80s car in the first place if you are going to turn it into an ad hoc modern car and rip everything 80s out of it?
