Got the trans back together, had to improvise with some tooling for the shift kit springs in the direct clutch. Went pretty well, got the idea from a guy on YouTube.

decided to look in the pump for good measure and

This might be a problem....

The front pump bushing was pretty much toast and look like it spun. Gonna order one and cross my fingers.... debating on a new pump just to be safe. Considering it always a $300 trans I suppose it could have been worse. All in all it went together pretty easy. Still have valve body mods to complete but everything inside was within spec.

Transmission is done.

Converted to 2wd.
Trans-go HD-3 with all the fixings installed
Pumped replaced.
New Center support (due to botched thread from GM).
New input and output seals.

Fully disassembled and reassembled like 3 times, clearly so I could practice, but everything that belongs in it is in it. Just need a tap for the bung for the vacuum modulator (1/4 NPT, weird I don’t have one) and she will be complete.

Beer time.

The losers.

Bought the wrong tap for the vacuum port in the transmission but my tools came in for the motor. So valve springs went in.

Ordered an LS valve spring tool and some other goodies from Brain Tooley Racing. Since I mangled the first valve stem seal I tried without his tool I got his install too and a crank pulley install tool.

Made quick work of the job with the right tools.

First side done looks slick with the pretty valve springs and comp pushrods.

Thanks Donovan. This just happens to be what I’m confident doing. I’m sure I’ll get bogged down when I get back to the sheet metal work on the rear quarters.

Now that the frame is back in I’m feeling like there’s a light at the end of the end of the tunnel again.

Got the right tap finally. Threaded the vacuum port through the case, put in a fresh filter and slid on the beauty FTI 3400 stall triple disc billet converter. Tomorrow she’s gonna be mated up with the motor for a “til death do we part” kinda relationship and put in for crossmember mock up, hopefully with the rear end for driveshaft measurement. Would be pretty awesome to have the driveline essentials complete before Xmas.

Little progress today made today.

Pulled the motor back out and bolted up the transmission. Then slid it back in and mocked up the crossmember.

Now that I have it all mocked up it doesn’t leave a lot of room for the AC unit. It has about a quarter inch from the valve cover, it just kinda feels tight around the last bolt on the coil mount.
