Worst crime I grew up with was ex or wannabe high school suitors of the 2 sisters blew up the mailbox down by the road with a pipe bomb. Well, that was after they tried hitting it with a plastic jug of water and it just spun, and hitting the pole they didn't realize was 4" steel tube filled with concrete with a bat they lost. (Bet that impact hurt)

At the time I thought life in a 15 square mile town of 500 people stunk. Now I've got a better appreciation of life in an area like that.

Everywhere these days has untrustworthy people. Red states, blue states, big cities, small towns. When you look how much worse it's gotten in the last 40 years you wonder how much worse it might still go.

We just had something happen in my home town recently. Made all the papers. Some folks out of state heard about it. A guy and his sk4nk gf punished his autistic son by making him sleep on the cement floor in his unheated attached garage. No pillow, no mattress, no blanket. The poor kid was hypothermic the next morning. He went into cardiac arrest and didnt make it. Then the POS father tried to cover it up. They had a security system in the house that recorded the whole thing. Hes a NYC cop. Theres more to the story but it was pretty horrible.

So sorry to hear about your grandsons experience. You would think that outside the city that all would be ok using the honor system. I know my "semi local" farmer in Fergus uses the same system leaving a tackle box out on the table in front of his house to make your own change if you need it. Sometimes there has to be a couple hundy in there. I feel bad when I see some people taking an extra cob of corn or extra tomatoes but would never think someone would take the cash.

I have also driven by that restaurant but never stopped in. Hopefully they will get some insurance $$ and rebuild. Often we go by St Jacobs and yes the Amish \ Mennonites can cook and work their *ss off !
