I've decided to make a thread specifically for my 200-4r. So my car build isn't filled with just trans stuff.

I don't know if this will be hard to do, I've never done a 200-4r trans. But I've done others so there cant be too many differences.

Its a CZF trans pulled out of a 19?? MCSS. I dont plan on spending extreme amounts of $$$. Looking at a few rebuild kits. Plan to upgrade servo, forward drum, sprag, and pump and of course clutches. Anybody mess with Makco trans parts???

Looks like an 88 model. Should have all of the factory upgrades.

I bought from makco, bulkpart, transmissionusa, buffaloengineparts and some stuff off ebay.

A link to my build. Let me know if you want any advice. Mine is working well so far.

Thanks! This is a perfect guideline on the rebuild. Im going to read it all when i have the time. I really want this trans to transfer every bit of power possible to the rear wheels unlike my 200c that's in now and the fact that a oil starved 307 is sitting in front of it doesn't help much either haha. How does your trans feel compared to a stock 200-4r??

Looks like a nice kit. I would opt for a .500 boost valve, a larger rev boost valve, and the 700r4 spring (http://www.sonnax.com/parts/2330 , and http://www.sonnax.com/parts/2940 ) good pressure could help it live, low pressure will let it die.

I would look into a carbon band. #22K. 200-4R Intermediate Black Carbon Fiber Band. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/200-4r.htm scroll down until you see the part number. They also sell the boost valves and springs. or at the wittrans.com site with part # A54022A Band, 200/C/200-4R/325/325-4L (1.885" Wide) 76-Up (Raybestos)

I used raybestos stage 1 frictions in the direct. https://www.wittrans.com/dx/cgi-bin...23B0272A95D9AB9107D3504FC572DA&OPTION=OPTIONS part # 54106AS1 Fri,200/C/200-4R/325/325-4L Forward & Dir Clu (.078")(Stage1 (Raybestos)

Regular tans in the other places. I would look at cutting the od apply piston .080 to fit an extra clutch. I didn't but it might be something you want to do.

Most important is to set the clearances on the direct clutches and the band/servo. this will get you good crisp shifts, or not if the clearances aren't "right".

Good information, Rich. I may also have to pick your brain when it comes time to reassemble my trans.
Thank you for putting that information out there.

Regarding specialty tools. I assume some tools can be substituted. I would hate to purchase some of these tools and only use them once.

Here are some pictures of the pan removed and pictures of the valve body. Didn't get it off yet just loosened the bolts holding it down. Oil looks OK, now that its everywhere.

This will be most of the parts for my rebuild. Not too fancy maybe add a better servo than stock, but this kit has plenty of parts to toughen/freshen up the trans.
And of course a Tq-Conv. I dont know why it says it only fits 81-84 models only???

It says that specifically for the 700-4R. The splines changed after those years for the 700-4R. That converter will work for all 200-4R. I called and asked Hughes about it a while back.

This thread is inspiring me to do the cz-f core I have.

Thanks for the Info. Now I know I can settle on that tq conv.
What do you dislike, the kit or the converter???
