On my 84 GP, the thermostat housing has two sensors. One is for the coolant and the other one has vacuum lines coming off of it. The one with the vacuum, has all the hoses busted. Can this be capped off? What do those vacuum lines do and go to? It is on a stock 305.

those aren't sensors..they are thermal vacuum switches and there should be a diagram in your engine compartment showing you where the vacuum lines go. Make sure the lines are not leaking cause that would cause a vacuum leak. I have removed those thermal switches and use other feeds for the distributor and egr which is the only units left that I need to supply vacuum to.
