Hey,

I the last owner of my car had these big-*ss motor mounts and a tall intake manifold so his hood wouldn't shut.
Maybe it was his plan all along but he cut a hole in the hood and had a Hilborn style air intake.
I thought that I would rather keep the motor below the hood so I cut out the welded in frame mounts and bolted in normal size ones. Because the hood has a hole in it I bought another hood (actually a whole parts car) but the hood is a different color so I keep looking at the hood with the hole in it that is at least painted the right color.
My most recent thought is that I could bolt or stick a scoop on the hood that would cover the hole and keep the original hood. The car is white but I could paint the scoop black. A functional scoop would be nice as well.
The car will be quick when finished. Not the fastest on this site by any means but i should be pushing around 425hp so it wont be like a stock car with a scoop.
I have plans to get the car painted but not until next winter and I want to drive it before then. Preferably without a big hole in the hood.
Maybe I could make the hole larger and rivet or bolt in a piece of plexi-glass.
That may look cool.

Let me know what you guys think would look good. If you have any pictures of your own set up, i would love to see them.
I think the motor is quite sexy. That is it in my avatar.
Thanks.

Sorry guys, the car is an 81 Grand Prix.

I would change the engine mounts and drop the engine as low as you can...you'll be amazed the difference dropping the top heavy weight of the engine an inch or 2...

The mounts are good, they are Moroso mounts and brand new both on the block and frame.

I may start to tinker with the suspension in a year or two. Now I am focusing on getting it running and not having an ugly hole in the hood. lol.

sorry, missed the part where you changed the mounts... 😳

I plan to modify my hood to get a better low air pressure area so I run a cold air box to the back of the hood. I don't want a scoop, I'd rather have it so it's not so obvious

I understand, you like the sleeper look.
I usually do too except that I'm a sucker for nice wheels and tires.
I figured I would get both hoods painted when I get the car painted so one would be stock and the other would have attitude.

that's a good idea having two hoods so you can have one of each..

Shouldnt cost much more if I'm getting the whole car painted.
But for now, I'm looking for suggestions on what to do with the hood with the hole in it.

put a trans-am shaker scoop

I've seen a couple of pictures of those on G-body cars and think they look pretty good.
it is an option for sure but a new one is around $1000.
