ok so i removed the factory axles from my 8.5 i picked up. removed the axle seals and bearings. well today i put in the new moser bearings and seals i have. now i messed up and seated the seals in a little further than flush but not much at all. i dont believe this will cause an issue as it still rides on the same diameter of shaft that it normaly would. anyways the passenger axle slips right in with ease and back out with ease. the driverside axle is a different story. it slides in just fine then once it starts to engage with the spider it tends to get tight. it will seat all the way in but it doesnt easily slide back out. i havent tried swapping the axles with the other side to see if it makes a difference.

as a note these hare mosier axles and the splines look alot better made than the factory axles. maybe they are tighter cut? the old axles i removed came out easily. anyone know what could be the issue? also will the seals be ok being seated a little more than flush with the outside of the tube?

The seal should not cause any problem, they make a Saver Bearing for when your seal creates a groove and doesn't seal anymore. All it does is combine the seal and bearing into one unit and moves the sealing surface to a new spot. It should not be a problem. The seal not being even with the housing will be fine.

yeah i figured as much, plus they are brand new axles so no grooves are cut. my concern is why the axle is tight.

man this is really bugging the crap out of me.

Pull it out and slip the axle into another center or spider gear or swap sides if it is the long axle to see how it fits.

Both axles are the same lenght.

the seal is rubber and does not create a groove in the axle. I think your thinking of the bearings cutting a grove in the axle and the bearing saver runs on a portion of the axle further out on the axle than where the stock bearing ran..

as for the seal if it isn't sitting straight on the axle it has a tendency of letting gear oil seep out. If you can't move the seal to position it properly without damaging it a new seal is cheaper than a set of brake shoes and easy to change now rather than later

I recently put moser axles in my wagon but i did 33 spline axles and spool. I also had trouble getting drivers side axle in also it looked to me like my diver side axle tube was a little bowed. So i taped it in lightly with a hammer stuck it together. Made 7 passes at the track and drove it for another 100 miles on the street with no problems. If you can get it in with a little light tap you will be fine in my opinion i wouldnt drive yourself nuts over it.
